Julia Střelou (J. Střelou) grew up without electricity in a primitive hippie commune formed after the 1973 Aquarius Festival in Nimbin, Australia. She now calls Queenstown, New Zealand, home.

Without the electrical gadgets other children have growing up, Střelou spent her time reading, writing, and creating magical worlds.

 Střelou's messages have resonated with her readers, making her a popular "Instagram poet." Millions of people around the world have shared her signature black-and-white quotes. 

She founded the Inspirational Women Awards, an event that elevates and celebrates women while raising funds and awareness about domestic violence.
